So, Hazelwood Power Station closed, the dirtiest coal fired power station in our state, maybe the country. People are complaining that they have lost their jobs, and that the state has lost a quarter of its electricity generating capacity. You know the planet is dying due to carbon emissions, don't you? Are you aware of that?
And we might have blackouts next summer, maybe? The doomsdayers, or is it the coal industry operatives, say. So, what if we do? It is a bit of an inconvenience, sure. There are still people in the world who don't have access to fresh water, think about that.
So, you might have to turn off your air conditioners in the summer, maybe the planet needs you to turn them off. Do you really need an air conditioner in the summer?
I was driving a few weeks ago on a hot day and I noticed that I was the only person driving down the highway who had their windows open. (more fuel, more carbon emissions)
There are very qualified and reputable scientists who say we are on the cusp of no return. We are at that point where very soon we won't be able to save the human race. The planet will be fine, it will regenerate without us. We will be something like a blip on the earth's time line. The planet won't care. Is that what you all really want. Oh, the human race, they were the ones who had so much potential. So, we need to do something now. It is now urgent. Desperate, if you like. We need to stop burning fossil fuels. I'm sorry about your jobs. (Actually, I'm not sorry about you jobs)
There are a smaller number of very qualified and reputable scientists who say that it is now too late.
