Nathan was waiting for his mate, Lachie, to come out of the bathroom. They had both been out drinking to celebrate Nathan’s great new job, and Lachie’s much deserved divorce. They were both pretty drunk. Nathan had drunk as much as Lachie, but Lachie seemed to be suffering more than Nathan. In fact, Nathan thinks he can hear Lachie throwing up in the bathroom. The walls aren’t thick in these new apartments.
Nathan hoped a bout of vomiting wouldn’t get in the way of what Nathan had in mind. Lachie had been giving him signs all night, which had exited Nathan more than Nathan ever expected that it would. Lachie seemed to be keener with every drink that he consumed. Nathan was into the idea too. He’d never really thought about it before just recently, when he and Lachie got much closer the more Lachie’s relationship fell apart with Eve.
Nathan was now pretty excited sitting there on Lachie’s bed waiting for Lachie to come out of the bathroom.
Lachie eventually came out of the bathroom.
“You, okay?” asked Nathan.
“Me, okay? Yeah, sure,” said Lachie.
“You were in there for a while, that’s all.”
“Er, beauty doesn’t come easy.” Lachie laughed.
“No, I guess.”
“What?” said Lachie. “You don’t have to worry.”
“Me?”
“Yeah.”
“I have to worry as much as anyone.”
“Listen to you?” said Lachie.
“If I have nothing to worry about.”
“You don’t.”
“Neither do you.”
“It takes more than some hair gel and moisturiser for me.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Did we get those beers?”
“Here.” Nathan hands and open stubby to Lachie.
“Cheers.”
“Cheers.”
Lachie and Nathan clinked beer bottles.
“Up your bum,” said Lachie as he put the bottle to his lips.
Nathan laughed.
They both drink their beer.
“Good night.”
“Good night.”
