Your photos remind of the lovely broad avenues you have in parts of Melbourne.
Sydney is reintroducing trams but we have no broad avenues like yours to run them down. Hence the next proposed line will require the demolition of assisted housing buildings.
Of course, in that picture is one of our last historical trams that only run on a few selected lines. The govt wanted to get rid of them altogether, but the public said they wanted at least some of them retained.

Trams are great. And yes we are lucky in Melbourne with our avenues to run them along, but we also run them down pretty narrow roads also.
